Day For Night : Ekene Ijeoma

EKENE IJEOMA  |  DECONSTRUCTED ANTHEMS

DAY FOR NIGHT FESTIVAL ARTIST INSTALLATION

We traveled to Houston, TX for Day For Night Festival, to document Artist Ekene Ijeoma as he brings to life Deconstructed Anthems, a music composition, jazz performance, light installation, that transforms the Star–Spangled Banner into a social barometer which responds to the state of mass incarceration, racial inequality, and The American Dream. The performances at Day for Night featured Emmy-winning composer/pianist Kris Bowers (Dear White People), trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire (Blue Note) and Grammy-nominated bassist Burniss Earl Travis (13th), and a self-playing piano. We interview the artist and guests to gauge reactions and interpretations of the installation.

Day For Night Festival is an annual music and art festival that explores the deep connections between light, technology, sound and space.
